How to Regain Your Energy.. Without Losing Your Sanity!

You know that feeling when all you can think about is getting to your bed and sleeping as long as humanly possible? Having no idea when exactly that will be but so desperately wanting it to be NOW?

Another cup of coffee….
Another energy bar….
Another piece of candy…
Another soda….

Reaching for ANYTHING to just give you some energy to get through the rest of the day.

We live in a world of stuff, stuff stuff everywhere–it’s always changing and so many issues develop everyday that weren’t even on your itinerary but require your immediate response. If you are like pretty much everyone else, you can often feel depleted of all the energy necessary to keep “at it,” without feeling like spontaneously combusting.

This is when you need to just stop for a moment, and realize that you actually possess all that is needed for you to recharge your batteries, at any given moment.

Seriously. You do.

Here’s some tips that help me to refocus and get my energy back:

1. Learn to Listen to Your Body’s Cues, and Don’t Ignore Them: One of the biggest reasons for burnout is because of that “Keep on keepin’ on” mentality. When you push yourself instead of resting a bit here and there, you are headed for a crash. Pacing yourself is one of the kindest things you can do for your energy retention.

2. Occasionally, Stop: Being still has a dramatically restorative effect on the body. It doesn’t require a huge investment of your time, either. Throughout your day, take advantage of quiet spaces where you can just be still. Concentrate on only that stillness that is around you and within you. Let it seep down into your core. Just a few minutes can be quite healing.

3. Don’t Forget to Breathe: Of course, you are always breathing, but how often do you focus exclusively on your breathing, alone? Practice some slow, deep rhythmic breaths, feeling each breath enter your body and extend to every part of you. When other thoughts begin to enter into your mind, block them and return to focused breathing. Just a few minutes of doing this is highly restorative and peace-giving.

4. You Are What You Eat: Eating the wrong foods can do more to make you feel flat and lifeless than anything else. Pay attention to how you feel after eating different foods, checking at five minutes, thirty minutes, and an hour after. Your body will tell you exactly which foods to avoid and which to eat more of.

5. Increase Your Whole Body Circulation by Moving More: At intervals through your day, take some time to perform some purposeful movements that integrate all of your body. And if you feel like you can’t do such moves at work without some privacy, you can do them in a bathroom stall. No really, I used to do it all the time and no one knew! Squats were my favorite These movements don’t necessarily have to be rapid: slow ones can have just as much benefit, when done properly.

6. Accentuate the Positive and Eliminate the Negative:  Take a good look at your life to see if there are certain people, places or pursuits that tend to be a downer or stress-producing, and do all that you can to eliminate these altogether, or at least reduce them as much as possible. Allow yourself this luxury. Instead, think about the positives in your life–the ones which always leave you feeling better afterwards. These are the ones you want to add more of. Know when  you just can’t add more responsibilities or gatherings with friends, co-workers and family to your plate and learn to graciously decline while leaving the relationship intact. Anyone who doesn’t understand belongs in the “get rid of” category, anyway.

7. More Than Meets the Eye: Often, we can get so caught up in the minute to minute struggles that we lose sight of the bigger picture. Try to look for the deeper meaning behind events and interactions, at the same time developing a way to recognize when your help or participation is not absolutely needed. Back off, whenever you can and become a passive observer–or redirect focus on something that will serve your needs and purposes. Remember, we teach other people how to treat us, so learning how to treat yourself well is a great example.

Remember, your body will respond with greater vitality, strength and be renewed if you address energy loss appropriately. So, even when you are at your most drained, burnt-out state and you just can’t imagine being able to go on… I promise you that you CAN gain control back by implementing these tips!

What Does Your Story Look Like?

Have you ever thought about the fact that right now… you are an author? Weird, I know but hang with me here.

You are the author of your own life.

We have the ability at any given time to change our story, rewrite the ending or add in a new twist. It’s actually pretty exciting if you think about it because it means the possibilities are endless!

That is… until you give someone else the pen.

You know you have given the pen away when you are feeling stuck in the same chapter you’re not excited about when you wake up in the morning. The chapter that seems like it will never end. The chapter that has you feeling exhausted and saying something like “is this what I’ve worked this hard for??”

When writing the story of your life, don’t let anyone else hold the pen.

For years, I felt STUCK in a never ending chapter. It was a chapter of complacency. I became complacent with the fact that we had an insane amount of debt. That no one loved their job so I should just stay for the “security” and pay. That people who come from my background will always struggle with weight.

My story was never supposed to be like that but along the way, I handed over the pen and let everyone else decide who I should be.

I stayed in that chapter because I was letting others dictate the direction of my life instead of going for what I actually wanted.

If this sounds like you as well, I want you to know it’s NEVER too late to take the pen back and finish the story the way you want to.

I say that because I did just that and know it’s possible.

From working between 50-80 hours a week to just get by check to check to having anxiety attacks in the hallway of my job from overwhelm, feeling uncomfortable in my own skin and constantly asking myself when things would get better to….

Reaching my goal weight, living out a life of purpose as a business and fitness coach, on our way to becoming debt free, mentoring others to start their own home businesses of freedom and having the ability to travel and enjoy life while I do so.

All because I grabbed the pen back and wrote a new chapter.

This year…
You can reach your goals.
You can be surrounded by the most positive people on the planet.
You can have your dream job.
You can be financially free.
You can live life on your own terms.

You simply have to be willing to turn the page, and get to work.

The dream is happening!

The dream is happening!

A few years ago, Joe and I were sitting at a baseball game when her turned and said…

“You know what would be cool? To see every baseball stadium in the country and get the experience in how different they all are.”

As soon as he said it, I added it to the dream board because at that time… that’s exactly what it was.

Between work schedules and the fact that we simply could not afford all of those plane tickets, hotels and games…

It just seemed like something that we would do when we retired.

However, life had a different plan and before we knew it… all the road blocks we thought we had were gone.

We both now work from home.
We have paid off a majority of our debt.
We do everything on our own schedule.
We have freedom.

We removed the roadblocks by being willing to go for what we wanted.

So this past weekend… we set off to our first stadium. Ok, technically we are going to count this as our second because we’re Yankee fans and already have that one covered;)

A three hour trip to Philadelphia where we were able to go to the game and explore one of my favorite cities.

No limit on our time schedule.
No having to answer to anyone.
Nothing pre-planned.

Here’s why I’m telling you all this though…

I have a feeling there are things you have right now on your “20 year” or even “50 year” plan that could be fast-tracked (or actually happen!) by you taking action today.

If you want something in your life, NOW is the time to go for it.

Our first thought was that we would have to wait to RETIRE to make this dream happen.

We’re both 30… it would have been awhile.

For me, I was able to create the freedom I have by starting my own coaching business and sharing my journey with others.

But if your dream is to create freedom in your life a different way, that’s incredible too.

And today… I urge you to go do it.

Now is your time to have everything you’ve ever wanted in life. Not just in your financial wellness but in ALL areas of your life.

Because yes, it’s possible.

Now go show this would what you’ve got!!

What will Your Freedom Day Look Like?

Two years ago, I was sitting at my desk at work and thought to myself…

Why am I still doing this to myself???

I understand your job may be different but for me, my job was filled with stress, anxiety and I lost all passion for it. The “glitz and glamor” of working as a designer in an ad agency was empty inside. I was frustrated, stuck, in debt and counting down until the weekend every day.

When I became an online fitness coach, I honestly had no idea at the time that it would be the catalyst to freedom for me. I was simply trying to be more accountable for my fitness goals and help others see that they too could reach theirs.

But that day in 2013…. right after an argument with my boss, I opened up my bank account and saw that I was consistently making more money with my hobby than what I was making being miserable at that desk.

I opened up Microsoft Word and typed my resignation letter – effective May 9, 2013.

I walked out of that door feeling excited, nervous, overjoyed and fearful all at once. It was a huge flying leap… one that I didn’t even tell my husband about until after I got to the car (ladies, I don’t recommend that lol!).

And here I am… two years later with ZERO regrets and now two additional businesses that are also thriving. Our life, marriage, finances and friendships are in totally different places than they once were. My husband has since been able to leave his full-time job as well and this afternoon as we took a break outside on the hammock all I could think was….

We did it.

We created the life we wanted for ourselves.

It wasn’t easy and trust me, not every day was sunshine and rainbows but when you want a change in your life bad enough, you push through the mud, no matter what.

That’s what I want to encourage you to go today… keep pushing!

Your goals may be completely different than ours but if there’s something you want to achieve in your life, you CAN do it.

You just have to be willing to take that first leap and never give up.
